As major changes have occurred in the African population context since CAFS was first established, CAFS itself has been evolving to respond to the new trends. The most important of these trends has been the maturing of the national programmes. This coming-of-age necessitated a re-focus on both in-country training and technical assistance tailored to local needs
CAFS’ courses have therefore been modularised to suit both regional and individual in-country training needs. CAFS’ in-country training services are supplemented by technical assistance to Governments and NGOs in training needs assessment, curriculum development, and mentoring CAFS’ new graduates in designing and conducting their own courses.
CAFS’ professional staff members provide short- and long-term technical assistance and consultant services in both Francophone and Anglophone sub-Saharan African countries. Clients include national public, private and civil society organisations; bilateral and multilateral development partners, and other international development organizations. CAFS technical assistance services cover institution building, strategic planning, programme development and management, action-oriented research, and programme evaluation.
